2019 James R. Hoffa Memorial Scholarship
Jan 04, 2019
James R. Hoffa became a Teamster member in 1934 and served as General President for 14 years, and, in recognition of his tireless service to the union and its members, was honored as General President Emeritus for life. At the November 1999 General Executive Board meeting, then-General Secretary-Treasurer C. Thomas Keegel presented a resolution to establish the new scholarship fund. This site describes the James R. Hoffa Memorial Scholarship Fund (JRHMSF) and outlines eligibility requirements and application procedures. The James R. Hoffa Memorial Scholarship Fund is an independent organization established and registered as a tax-exempt entity under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The Fund is established solely to provide scholarships to the child or dependent of a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, and contributions to the Fund are deductible as charitable contributions to the extent permitted by law. News The application process for the 2019 year is now open. To access the application, please visit www.jrhmsforg Eligibility: For the sons, daughters and financial dependents of Teamster members (including the BMWED, BLET, GCC and TCRC). Harry Polland/Robert Morales Scholarship Program
Apr 26, 2017
This scholarship is named for Harry Polland, the long-time Joint Council 7 Economist who was responsible for negotiating and improving Teamster contracts throughout California; and Robert Morales, Secretary-Treasurer to Teamsters Joint Council 7 and Teamsters Local 350 as well as Director of the IBT's Solid Waste Division, had the ability to negotiate the best Waste Division contracts in the country and to lobby in the country and to lobby in the City and County of San Francisco for workers' rights. Although both small in stature, they were giants in the world of collective bargaining. This Scholarship is intended as a tribute to Harry and Bob's efforts to ensure that Teamster jobs always provide the wages and benefits necessary to support families and enable Teamsters to send their children to college.
THE JAMES R. HOFFA SCHOLARSHIP FUND
Dec 20, 2016
The James R. Hoffa Memorial Scholarship Fund distributed $1.2 million in scholarship awards to the sons and daughters of Teamsters in the U.S. and Canada. In 2017, the Fund is committed to distributing $1.4 million, an increase of $200,000. We appreciate the support of our local unions and joint councils who have kept this scholarship the strongest in the labor movement.
